about

Mysteries is pleased to release a new EP from French experimental artist Sylvia Monnier, entitled Willing Suspension of Disbelief. This is a bold, dynamic release composed in two segments that echo one another, thereby casting a sonic and emotional range. These pieces, buzzing with energy, bring to mind artificial, technological environments imposed upon the natural world. The first chapter opens as if in media res with droning intensity, before a hypnotic transmutation begins. Part two takes liberties with range, shifting from a zone of density into a minimalist space, before recreating itself again. On the whole, the world Monnier has created here is a malleable symphonic landscape that at times unfolds towards narrative while simultaneously resisting forced structures. Momentary rhythms dissolve imperceptibly; hard and soft impressions find points of intersection and reconciliation. The results are gorgeous.
